Silence vs. Autumn Tale

I already posted a review for Silence, a Taiwan drama in my previous post. I did mention that I think Silence and Autumn Tale (Korean drama) have a lot of things in comment, so let’s talk about it.

1. Both of them start off in similar way from the leading roles were a kid. In Autumn Tale, Yoon Joon-suh (Song Seung Heon) and Yoon Eun-suh (Song Hye Gyo) grew up as siblings but Eun-suh was in fact from a different family as there was a mixed up at the hospital where she was born. In Silence, Zhou Shen Shen (Park Eun Hye) meets Qi Wei Yi (Vic Zhou) while they were in the hospital, and they become a good friend and fall in love.

2. Under some circumstances, the leading roles in both series have to be separated since they were a kid. In Autumn Tale, after switching back between Eun-suh and the real daughter, Jooh-suh’s family moved to the United States. In Silence, Wei Yi was moving away as well (I think he went to school oversea), and he didn’t get to say goodbye to Shen Shen.

3. Both male leading roles: Joon-suh and Wei Yi come back from aboard and try to find their missing memory. Then they kept passing each other or interact with each other without knowing that the other person is someone they’re looking for (this is so classic).

4. In both series, the main male and female already have someone they purpose to be with. In Autumn Tale, Joon-suh already has a fiancé, Shin Yu Mi (Han Na Na) and Eun-suh has Han Tae Suhk (Won Bin) who madly in love with her. In Silence, Wei Yi is engaged to Mi Xiao Guang (Megan Lai) and Shen Shen has Zuo Jun (Andy Hui), who is also madly in love with her.
5. The supporting roles; Yu Mi, Tae Suhk, Xiao Guang and Zuo Jun in both series do all the crazy selfish things they can to keep the main characters with them. For example, Yu Mi tried to kill herself to keep Joon-suh by herself. In Silence, with knowing that Wei Yi’s dying, Xiao Guang stills try to do everything to be the one by his side.

6. The leading role from both series having a cancer (another classic sickness) and dying. They try to hide it from another main leading role, and right at the very end another leading role with find out. Then main characters get to spend a very little time together at the end.

7. Lastly, that person dies.

I guess this type of story line is just classic. I had a good cry for both of series. I like Autumn Tale a little more.
